The boats are currently bring shipped to Melbourne and are due for arrival on the 24th January.

Melbourne Update: the Melbourne Port PR team wish to really get involved in The Mini Volvo Ocean Race and are keen to get teams, press and public fully involved, so this set of races will go even better than the set of races in Cape Town. It will be held on the 2nd January and will coincide with the Skippers and Navigators press conference. A local model yacht club has offered their assistance with the boats and will be on-hand on the day of the race itself to help us deal with any technical issues. The prize for the three winners is to go diving with sharks at Melbourne Aquarium – which I am sure that will really get the guys going!!

Scaled down boats, top notch excitement. The Victoria & Alfred Waterfront in Cape Town staged today three more races between the seven syndicates
participating in the Volvo Ocean Race 2005-2006 , as well as with the Volvo Ocean Race itself. The weapons of choice were one-design 1.7 foot boats produced by Micro Magic and the course was set between the coming and going tourist boats that serve the Waterfront. Read more.

The first instalment of The Mini Volvo Ocean Race went extremely well today. Photos will come and there should be stories going onto the ABN website, as well as the Volvo website shortly. Lots of people asked for the name of the boats and where to get them from!!

One thing is certain: These people will be surprised what fun it is to sail with the MM!!

27-10-'05: There are some contacts with the foundation Stopover VOR to organize something in june 2006.

Also planns are made within ABNAMRO in Holland.....

This is great for us in Holland. What will it bring on international scale. Will it work to get another country on the MM's? Is France coming up? Their website is getting more and more hits, sailing is popular in France....

A small update of the MM VOR shipyard.

Today Alex and me (=Ben) picked up 5 demonstration boats and 8 sets of sails..

On the picture below you can see the Sevenstar boats which has to be prepared for the VOR. I've put some extra glue to get more water risistance.

The VOR organisation wants their boats in white and black. The VOR Teams can then sticker their own boats, everything is branded.

26-10-'05: Yes!!! Volvo have confirmed that they will include the Mini-Volvo Ocean Race as part of their official program and both TEAM ABN AMRO and Volvo will be publicising the event.

The model yacht racing will be part of the official Volvo program for the stopovers: Sanxenxo, Spain; Cape Town, South Africa; Melbourne, Australia; Rio de Janeiro, Brazil; Baltimore/Annapolis, USA; Portsmouth, England; Rotterdam, the Netherlands; Gothenburg, Sweden(?). It will not be held at the pit-stops of Auckland and New York as these are only two day programs and there is not enough time.

Ben van Dullemen is going to prepar 8 boats at his home Scheveningen. We offer 5 demonstration boats to get this done in the short time. Ben has offers his own MM and 3 more. If all goes as planned Graupner will give him a big present for the refit of the boats.. Painting is the most important job. Any assistance is welcome. November 3 is transport time!

Foto: Hidde van den Hondel

And... if everything is going as planned it would be nice for Henk if he will get 5 new demonstration boats. Help is also welcome.

It all shakes me, what a sensational development! This will generate a lot of international attention.
